Susan Willmering – Vice President

Susan Willmering has been the instrumental music director of South Pointe
Middle School in Diamond Bar since 2007.
The South Pointe Band program encompasses over 400 students, four large
ensembles and thirteen different afterschool chamber ensembles. Under
Ms. Willmering’s leadership, South Pointe’s bands continuously receive high praises at
both local and national festivals. The South Pointe Wind Ensemble has traveled to New
York, Washington DC, Chicago, Seattle and Boston, receiving clinics at universities such
as New England Conservatory, Julliard, Northwestern, De Paul, New York University,
Harvard, Boston College, and George Mason. They have performed multiple times in
Carnegie Hall, Chicago Symphony Hall and the Kennedy Center. In 2016, South Pointe’s
Wind Ensemble was chosen to perform at the California All-State Music Educator’s
Conference in San Jose.
Ms. Willmering is an alumnus of California State University Fullerton where
she graduated cum laude, earning a degree in Music Education with an emphasis in
Percussion Performance. She also completed her Masters in Music Education at the
American Band College through Central Washington University.
In the summer of 2015, Ms. Willmering began her tenure with Idyllwild Arts
Academy Summer Program as conductor of the Symphonic Band, where she leads young
musicians in an intensive and passionate musical learning environment backed by a team
of highly talented music coaches.
Since 2007, she has served as a manager for Southern California School Band and
Orchestra Association’s (SCSBOA) High School Honor Groups and is the current Vice
President of California Band Directors Association (CBDA).
In 2007, Ms. Willmering was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, a National Music
Honor Society exclusively dedicated to recognizing great music educators. In 2017, Ms.
Willmering was humbly named CMEA Southeastern Section’s Outstanding Music Educator
of 2017 and Teacher of the Year at South Pointe Middle School.
